PSC schedules Minot hearing for Ruso Wind project

The North Dakota Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing in Minot on Monday, June 17, regarding a proposal to construct a wind farm in Ward County and associated electric transmission line in Ward and McHenry Counties.

Ruso Wind Partners, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southern Power, has submitted applications for permits for the Ruso Wind Project and an associated transmission line. The wind farm will have a capacity of up to 205 megawatts and will consists of about 60-63 turbines, depending on approval of the final layout.

Associated facilities include access roads, electrical collection and communication systems and cabling, an operations and maintenance building, permanent meteorological evaluation towers and a substation. The project area for the wind project would encompass about 16,197 acres about 5.7 miles northwest of Ruso in Ward County. Estimated cost of the wind project is $250 to $280 million.

The project will also include an approximately 10-mile long, 230-kilovolt transmission line that would run from the wind project in Ward County to a new substation that would be constructed in McHenry County. The project would interconnect to the grid via the newly constructed Ruso Wind Switching Station that would be owned and operated by Great River Energy. Estimated cost of the transmission line project is $5 million to $7 million.

The hearing will be held at 9 a.m. in Sleep Inn & Suites.
