Cuming County board tables vote on wind turbine

BY staff | KNEB | May 29, 2019 | kneb.com

The Cuming County Board of Supervisors voted 6 to 1 Wednesday to table a decision on Bluestem Energy Solution’s application for a conditional use permit for a single wind turbine to be built in the county. Steven Meister was the lone vote not to table a decision. Board members want more time to gather information. No timeline was given.

Several people who live near the proposed site in Grant Township testified against the proposal at Wednesday’s board meeting citing concerns about noise, flickering lights, impact on property values and an unsightly tower. Many of the same concerns were voiced at this month’s Planning Commission meeting, where members voted 6 to 3 to recommend approval of the conditional use permit.

Cuming County Public Power supports adding a single wind turbine to provide 10 percent of its power needs. General Manager Chet McWhorter says it’s a sound business decision.
