‘Do we want to have this treasure harmed … ?’

Times-Standard | May 21, 2019 | www.times-standard.com

I fully support Rick Pelren’s stance that we need more time to become informed about the Humboldt Wind, LLC proposed wind farm. (“New wind farm a big surprise,” Times-Standard, May 18, Page A4.)

The deadline for public input needs to be extended and more local meetings need to be held.

Part of the plan includes a permanent operations facility with related buildings and offices that would be constructed on the west side of 101 at the Pepperwood/Avenue of the Giants exit. Three concrete batch plants will be created and 17 miles of new access roads will be built near pristine old growth fir and redwood forests that could soon be exposed to being easily accessed and harvested. The Avenue of the Giants is one of the outstanding tourist draws for our county. Do we want to have this treasure harmed in this manner? Representatives from Humboldt Wind, LLC will hold a meeting at the Old Steeple in Ferndale on Tuesday, May 28 at 5:30 p.m. I hope this meeting will be well attended and other meetings will quickly follow.
