NextEra hearing resumes April 23

The Hutchinson News | Apr 16, 2019 | www.hutchnews.com

The resumed public hearing by the Reno County Planning Commission on NextEra Energy’s application for a permit to build a wind farm in southeastern Reno County is now set for Tuesday, April 23.

The board has secured the Fox Theatre, 18 E. First Ave., for the meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m.

The Planning Commission has completed receiving information from NextEra and the public on the conditional use permit application, but county planning staff haven’t yet presented its concluding remarks.

Once staff comments are received, the board will formally close the public hearing and begin deliberations on the permit. The discussion, as well as any ensuing vote, will be held in open session, not in executive session as previously reported by The News.

After the Planning Commission votes on its recommendation to the County Commission, members of the public who live within 1,000 feet of the proposed developed and who received a formal notice of the hearing will have 14 days to file a protest petition with the Reno County Clerk if they disagree with the ruling, County Administrator Gary Meagher said.

If no protest petition is received, the issue will then go to the Reno County Commission for action.
