Wind turbine vote a shame for Lancaster County

Lincoln Journal Star | journalstar.com

The way Lancaster County Commissioner Rick Vest handled the wind energy regulations is a shame.

His first vote was based on months of work and sworn testimony of which he was a part. The wind developers’ representative, however, thought that vote was too restrictive.

After a private meeting, Vest reconsidered and asked for a revote in order that he could change his vote based on “additional information” that he had acquired. The less restrictive regulations that Vest proposed in his revote passed, with only Commissioner Deb Schorr voting against, basing her vote on sworn testimony rather than the information that Vest obtained from his closed-door meeting with the wind developer

Allowing votes to be swayed in such a way undermines the entire process and the integrity of the Lancaster Board of Commissioners.
