Board amends wind energy ordinance

The Clinton County Leader | March 28, 2019 | www.clintoncountyleader.com

Friday evening, March 15, the Washington Township Board (DeKalb County) completed a process begun two years ago. The Washington Township Zoning Commission had recommended to the Township Board the adoption of an amended ordinance prohibiting the construction of any industrial wind energy conversion systems within the township. The vote by the Zoning Commission was two to zero with one abstention, and three to zero at the Township Board.

The Washington Township Board also agreed with the recommendation by the Zoning Commission to permit small wind energy conversion systems for personal use to reduce utility expenses if the tower height was less than 120 feet, and the output was less than 100 kilowatts. Washington Township joins Caldwell County and Clinton County with the prohibition of commercial or industrial wind energy systems. I say, “Well done!”
