Developers talk area wind project updates

The annual Saline County Wind Association meeting was held at the Ohiowa Auditorium in Ohiowa March 3.

During the meeting, project developers for wind farms in Saline and Fillmore counties presented updates and answered questions about them.

Those developers include EDF Renewables developer Scott Kuhlke, Jason Edwards, systems consultant for York Capital Management and Dylan Ikkala of Apex Clean Energy.

Edwards, consultant for the York Capital Management group, presented on the Milligan Three project, previously owned by Aksamit Resource Management.

Edwards said the power for the project has already been sold and construction for the project is estimated to begin this fall.

Kuhlke, project developer for EDF Renewables and project partner Logan Winston, spoke on behalf of the Milligan One project recently purchased in January.

Anywhere from 75 to 130 wind turbines will be installed for the project and will produce 300 megawatts of power.

“Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough power to offset more than 100,000 homes,” Winston said.

Kulke estimated the operation date of the project to be 2020 with construction starting sometime this year. Currently, EDF Renewables is working on obtaining landowner approval for the project, which is estimated to span over 35,000 acres.

Ikkala, project developer for Apex Clean Energy, presented on the Cornhusker Harvest wind project being developed just outside of Tobias.

The 300 megawatt project is expected to be up and running in 2021. There have been 25,500 acres leased for the project, which will consist of anywhere from 90-13-0 wind turbines.

“We are continuing to gather wind data,” Ikkala said of the second round of environmental studies taking place for the project.
