Plans lodged for bigger rotors at controversial Donegal wind farm

The developer behind a controversial wind farm development in the Finn Valley has applied for planning permission to increase the size of the rotor blades on the turbines.

Planree Ltd was given planning permission last year for the 19-turbine Meenbog Wind Farm (pictured) in the townlands of Meenbog, Croagh Oonagh and Cashel Naveen.

The turbines are to have a tip-height of 156.5m.

The plans had been opposed by some locals.

A previous application for a 49-turbine wind farm by the same developer in the area had been previously turned down.

Planree Limited is now seeking an alteration to utilise a larger rotor diameter which it says remains “within the consented design envelopes and parameters of the previously approved Meenbog Wind Farm”.
