Letter: Wind Park Easement

The strategy investors of a new wind park use is to have local investors contact landowners in the footprint of the proposed wind park to sign an easement (contract).
A letter in the 3-25-15 local paper reads, in part, but most important, Prevailing Winds LLC is locally owned by your friends and neighbors. The letter was signed by the president of Prevailing Winds. Now, after 174 contracts have been signed thinking Prevailing Winds is locally owned, the contracts have been sold to sPower, a company we know very little about. Bridget Canty, permitting project manager of sPower, has an office in San Francisco, Calif. The local friends and neighbors is now history.
Section 1-2 of the easement reads: “sPower has bought the easements; however, they are not permitted to conduct any development activities on the easement property without prior written consent of owner.”
We have checked with three attorneys who agree it will take another signature before sPower can enter the property. Only 29 of the 174 landowners who signed a contract will be getting one or more turbines. Of the 29 only four live within one mile of a turbine.
