BURKE – A public hearing will be held on Monday for proposed changes to the town’s wind turbine law.
The proposed changes to the law will extend the maximum height for wind turbines within the town to 725 feet, with a proportional increase to the set-back distance.
The Town Board voted at its last meeting on Feb. 13 to schedule a public hearing for 7 p.m. Monday at the Town Hall on Route 11.
Attorney Brian Stewart presented copies of the proposed amended law at the Feb. 13 meeting. Stewart said that the change had been prompted by improving technology – as the turbines are made more efficient, developers tend to make fewer, larger turbines rather than more of a smaller size.
Stewart said the town has the primary authority to determine turbine size and that there is no upper limit imposed by the state.
