Reader disappointed in commissioners

Huron Daily Tribune | February 23, 2019 | www.michigansthumb.com

I was totally disappointed with our county commissioners, with exception to Sammi Kourny and Mr. Wiessner. The commissioners had a vote to extend the moratorium and let the planning committee finish the ordinance on wind energy or accept the 2015 ordinance.

Everyone knows it is totally insufficient, designed for and by the developer, not for the health and safety of our tax paying people of Huron County. The commissioners finally have appointed a planning board to be proud of, and let me tell you, they are not overpaid. I don’t know how they even condone the work expected from the committee and the way they get.

Our planning board in our township gets more than twice that amount. I have attended county planning meetings. Come see for yourself. It is a team to be proud of – they consider the health and safety of the county with respect to the commissioners to the letter. They were told to stop working on the wind ordinance and work on solar and finish master plan. They did inform the commissioners that the moratorium would probably need to be extended, if planners are not allowed to keep working on it. Commissioner Vaughn had constituents there that asked for the planning board to be allowed to finish. What was he afraid of if they can still choose the 2015 ordinance over the revised if it does not meet approval?

I am mortified that they did not support their own hand-picked planning board and give them a chance to finish. It’s not like we need to rush to get more turbines. I think it’s time to step up to the plate and do what’s right for the good of all the people of Huron County.
