Jeff Danielson, an Iowa senator who resigned last week, is taking a job with the American Wind Energy Association.
The national group said Danielson will lead its state policy advocacy efforts across Midwestern and Plains states.
In his new role as central region director, Danielson “will advocate for pro-growth policies to help wind power expand and meet strong consumer demand for clean energy,” the industry group said.
A special election must be held to replace Danielson, a Democrat who served for 15 years in the Senate. Gov. Kim Reynolds called for the election to be held March 19.
His district seat covers Cedar Falls, Hudson and parts of Waterloo in Black Hawk County.
Danielson previously worked as Cedar Falls firefighter and as an adjunct professor of public policy at the University of Northern Iowa.
Before that, Danielson served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He begins work for the wind association Monday.
“I’m proud to announce an exciting new chapter in my career, even as two wonderful chapters of public service come to a close,” Danielson said in a statement.
“Though my work for the wind industry will not be public service in the traditional sense, it is very much in line with what I’ve striven for throughout my career,” he said.
The association said Danielson has a “track record of working across the aisle to get things done.”
Iowa gets 37 percent of its electricity from wind, a larger share than any other state.
