Vermont agrees to refund wind developer $75K

Vermont has agreed to refund a wind developer $75,000 for a project on hold in Swanton.

Vermont Public Radio reports the decision Monday comes after the state Supreme Court ruled in December that Swanton Wind was entitled to all or part of the $100,000 fee it paid for an environmental review of the project.

Swanton Wind withdrew the 20-megawatt planned project in 2017 after the Public Utility Commission said the developer didn’t do a study on the effects on the regional electric grid.

When the developer asked for the money back, the commission said it did not have the authority to order a refund.

Swanton Wind appealed, and the court ruled the commission did have the authority.

Swanton Wind has requested the commission to close the case.
