Contact representatives, regulate wind energy

The Sabetha Herald | January 8, 2019 | sabethaherald.com

As many of you are aware, there are multiple industrial wind companies looking to make Nemaha and Brown Counties long-term wind farms by putting nearly 500 industrial sized wind turbines in our counties. One of these companies, NextEra Energy, Inc., is a multi-billion dollar corporation. There is substantially more information in the December 12th and 19th issues of the Sabetha Herald, as well as significant resources on the Northeast KS Wind Farm Education Facebook page. Please investigate these sources for more information. The purpose of this letter is to make fellow citizens aware of the fact that the wind industry is completely unregulated. What this means for our great counties is that there is nothing to protect us against the desires of these large and powerful corporations. Both participating and non-participating land and homeowners need regulation for protection. Unlike the oil and gas industries, which are highly regulated by many different governing associations, these wind companies can essentially do whatever they wish to best suite their own agendas. Our plea to all of Nemaha and Brown County residents is that you recognize the serious risk of not being protected from an industry of this magnitude, which may not have the best interest of our counties in mind. Please email your local legislators– Randy Garber, House at randy.garber@house.ks.gov, Dennis Pyle, Senate at dennis.pyle@senate.ks.gov and Joe Seiwert, Energy Committee Chair at joe.seiwert@house.ks.gov. A letter template can be accessed on the Northeast KS Wind Farm Education Facebook page. Also, please reach out to your county commissioners as they work towards making the best decision for the people of Nemaha and Brown counties. Please contact your local representatives as soon as possible and let them know you are concerned with this industry being unregulated. Thank you!
