Authority needs to keep public informed

The Tribune-Democrat | www.tribdem.com

Locals are getting ripped off by a large, out-of-town corporation.

Same old story, different century. Come destroy our land while telling us what a wonderful thing it’s going to be.

Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) is considering a deal with the Greater Johnstown Water Authority to develop a wind farm on Laurel Ridge on land owned by the authority.

The number of windmills has not been provided, but the last wind farm completed by CPV has 66 active wind turbines.

Industrial wind farms cluster massive amounts of windmills in a localized area to benefit from economies of scale.

The water authority claims it will get $210,000 per year from the proposed wind farm on Laurel Mountain. The average windmill pays $4,000 per year to the land owner. As you can see, this could be a massive wind farm with more than 50 windmills.

Many windmills and turbines are not made in the United States, do not use steel produced in the United States and are not produced by American labor.

The Greater Johnstown Water Authority is a government body. So why the secrecy? It needs to be transparent and inform everyone on what it plans to do here.
