State seeks input on Lewis County wind farm

The state is taking comments from folks who live near a wind farm project that’s in the works in Lewis County.

A state board will consider concerns brought forward at a meeting in Lowville Wednesday.

The proposed wind farm would run along Number Three Road.

Many farmers and other residents who spoke at the meeting are satisfied with what wind farm officials have put forward, although members of a group called the Tug Hill Alliance for Rural Preservation have voiced concern.

“We’re concerned with the cumulative impact these wind farms are going to have on Lewis County,” alliance co-founder Heath Ash said.

“There’s the general perception that wind is accepted and liked,” member Rebecca Sheldon said, “and I think that forces people who don’t agree to be quiet.”

The state will review the Number Three Wind Project and make a decision by next September.

If approved, construction could begin in early 2020.
