Land owners in Gibson and Posey Counties looking to learn more about proposed wind farm

A European energy company is looking to build a new wind farm in the Tri-State and Monday night farmers in the area wanted to know what’s in it for them.

Land owners in Posey and Gibson Counties have been hearing rumors about a potential wind farm being built in their area.

Monday night, a group wanting to know more about the company’s plan met at Gibson Southern High School in hopes of learning more about what this could mean for them.

Eyewitness News was allowed to talk to some of those people before the meeting but our cameras were made to leave once the meeting started.

Reports say the company, E-ON, is looking to build over 30 wind turbines in farm fields leasing up to 15,000 acres.

The area said to be under consideration is along I-64 in southern Gibson and northern Posey Counties.

Many at the meeting voiced their concerns, wanting to know if their property is being considered and how they could benefit from it.

“The things I worry about a little bit is when one person wants to have his farm, but when it comes to laying power lines and stuff, everybody is going to be affected by that,” said resident Gary Seibert. “You may be in it when you don’t want to be.”

The meeting was sponsored by the Farm Bureau.

Eyewitness News did not see a representative from E-ON at the meeting to get a comment.

We’re told specific areas have not been chosen yet.

Officials say there’s no time table for the project and the possibility of a wind farm could still be years away.
