Wind turbines a menace to wildlife

David Bellamy in his letter (Western Mail, November 8) is spot on in his assessment regarding proliferation of wind turbines and the industrialisation of the landscape.
The arguments are self-evident to any rural dweller (no, not Nimbys) but it seems main pro lobby hails from urban areas where strangely they do not suffer the imposition of clean air policies!
Carwyn Jones in First Minister’s Question Time on November 7 responded to a question regarding clean air standards not being met by saying that it is difficult to balance the country’s industrial infrastructure, quoting steelworks as an example and jobs entailed.Germany has the same problem, and for all their “clean” programme use more coal (lignite) fired power stations.
Recently it has been shown that these “farms” significantly alter the biodiversity under and around them as they eliminate the incidence of raptors and hence create an imbalance in wildlife….so environmentalists beware.This is in addition to many other adverse reasons well documented.
The emissions saved from land- based turbines are minimal and WAG should consider and take into account local and national concerns when trying to equate their clean air agenda.
At the moment the minister involved has preconceived ideas and should not use her own rather Friends of the Earth politics and financial incentives to colour/oppose democratic decisions.
