Wind turbine foes offer endorsements

The Argus Press | www.argus-press.com

Regulated Wind of Shiawassee County has been asked what would be the group’s recommendations to the upcoming elections. We will give you the best information on what we know as far as the candidates regarding wind energy and energy mandates.

County Commissioners:

District 1 Commissioner Michael Bruff is not running for re-election. The choice is between Republican Marlene Webster and Democrat Danny Miller.

Marlene has stated she backs the voice of the people, whereas Miller in June of this year stood up at the Board of Commissioners meeting and stated he loves wind turbines. Our vote goes to Webster.

District 2 Commissioner Dan McMasters is not running for re-election. Republican Cynthia Farrell and Democrat John Horvath are on the ballot.

Horvath was on the previous board of commissioners and on the planning and zoning board when 600-foot wind turbine ordinance was passed without a thought.

John also was not receptive to our group when we voiced our concerns in the fall of 2016. Our vote goes to Farrell.

District 3 Commissioner is a choice between Republican Gary Holzhausen or Democrat Thomas Foster. We would vote for either one. Holzhausen voted for the new ordinance and Foster was on the planning and zoning board that worked out a good protective ordinance to send to the board of commissioners.

District 4 is is Commissioner Brandon Marks (a Republican) who voted for the new ordinance. He has no opponent in November.

District 5 is Commissioner Jeremy Root (a Republican) who voted for the new ordinance. He has no opponent in November.

In District 6, Commissioner Democrats Jeff Bartz voted for the new ordinance and worked very well with our group to get the new ordinance. He is also very knowledgeable in the Misteguay Creek project. We know very little about Republican Cindy Garber who is running against him. Our vote goes to Bartz.

District 7: Unfortunately, Commissioner Mark Coscarelli was beaten in the primary by Republican John Plowman. Plowman was on the previous board and was not receptive to our concerns when we brought them to the board in the fall of 2016. He has no opponent in November.

One of the reasons Michigan has so many conflicts over wind turbines is the energy mandates that Gov. Jennifer Granholm established and Gov. Rick Snyder kept in place. Our rural counties and townships are having to endure this onslaught from wind companies. We must stop the energy mandates and any person running that supports the energy mandate.

On a state level, we support Republican Tom Barrett for state senator and Republican Ben Frederick for representative. They have both stated to our group they do not support energy mandates in our state.

On the matter of governor, Kevon Martis, our wind expert, has stated Democrat Gretchen Whitmer will expand the energy mandates. We hope this helps, and most importantly, vote.
