Over 500 concerned citizens attend local public meeting

The Advertiser-Tribune | Oct 20, 2018 | www.advertiser-tribune.com

I would like to thank each and every person who attended Seneca Anti-Wind Union’s public informational meeting that was held on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Camden Falls. We had a phenomenal turnout and the event was a HUGE success! People were able to look at all the maps, review information regarding all of the negative impacts that will come with these projects, listen to speeches on the very contentious issue, be present for a very informative presentation, and people were able to talk one-on-one with SAWU members to ask any question that people may have had. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible, thank you to all the elected officials, candidates for office and finally thank you to all the local businessmen and businesswomen who were all in attendance. It truly is amazing what we can accomplish when our community comes together! I think a loud and clear message was sent to the wind turbine companies, the OPSB (Ohio Power Siting Board), and many elected officials across the state that the majority in Seneca County residents do NOT want these industrial scale wind turbine projects to happen in Seneca County!

If you were not able to attend the meeting we had on Tuesday we have two smaller Town Hall-style meetings planned for this coming week. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and it will be held at the Bettsville American Legion, which is located at 323 State St. The second meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. and it will be held at the New Riegel American Legion, which is located at 20 E. South St. These smaller scale meetings were designed to make sure that we could provide an opportunity for every community in Seneca County a chance to attend one of our informational meetings. To date, we have held meetings in: Bellevue, Attica, Bloomville, Old Fort, Tiffin and Green Springs, all in effort to reach every resident in Seneca County. Both of these meetings will feature an informational PowerPoint presentation that will be put on by Greg Smith. This PowerPoint does a great job of bringing everyone up to speed with the industrial wind turbine projects that are proposed for Seneca County. Of the many things this presentation will do, it will dispel rumors that you may have heard, it will talk about the process which an industrial scale wind turbine project must go through for approval by the state, and will tell you what we can do to STOP these projects.

SAWU will be on hand, as always, with yard signs, informational handouts and brochures, and will be available to answer any of your questions. We will have our petition available that has over 3,000 signatures from Seneca County Residents which asks commissioners Shayne Thomas and Holly Stacy to rescind the AEZ (Alternative Energy Zone). With the AEZ in place, Seneca County has ZERO local control and ZERO bargaining power when it comes to these massive industrial scale wind turbine projects! Having the AEZ in place also gives automatic approval to give these huge multinational corporations massive tax breaks which will give away TENS of MILLIONS of dollars! It is time we take back our county and our control from these Wind Turbine Companies!
