PRC votes yes on the construction of 950 wind turbines

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Construction on an estimated 950 wind turbines is set to get underway following a 4-0 vote from the Public Regulation Commission, or PRC.

The commission voted to approve the location control permit for Pattern Development’s Corona Wind Projects that are expected to add long-term financial benefits to the region.

“We greatly appreciate the commission’s diligent work to ensure that we had an effective review process, that our filing was complete and that New Mexico residents will continue to benefit from our initiative,” said Mike Garland, CEO of Pattern Development. “Our team is now able to move forward with the Corona Wind Projects, creating over a thousand new construction jobs and generating billions of dollars in economic impact, while continuing to progress New Mexico as a leader in wind energy.”

An economic impact report, given by Albuquerque accounting firm Moss Adams, states the project will generate an estimated $3.8 billion of total impact. In addition, the projects will provide hundreds of construction jobs and maintain about 100 jobs once completed and operational.

The projects are estimated to be completed by the end of 2020.
