Apex to reveal locations of wind turbines for Somerset-Yates project

Four years after it unveiled plans for a 201-megawatt wind power development near Lake Ontario, Apex Clean Energy is ready to reveal the locations of the wind turbines it intends to build in the towns of Somerset and Yates.

The disclosure is to come at a public meeting set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in Lyndonville High School, the company announced Wednesday.

The project has drawn heavy public opposition and official opposition from the towns, but dozens of landowners have signed leases to allow Apex to build turbines for the Lighthouse Wind project on their property.

The company said in July it intends to erect 45 to 50 turbines, each less than 600 feet high. That’s a reduction from the original plan of 70 turbines up to 620 feet high.
