Supervisors OK tax sales, wind farm permit 

Leroy Schoon, Board of Adjustments Chairman, reported that the Cherokee County Board of Adjustments held a public hearing on August 20, 2018 to consider EDF Renewables application for conditional use permits for the Glaciers Edge Wind Project. After hearing comments from the public and questions answered by EDF representatives, the Board of Adjustments approved the permits by a unanimous vote and accepted an $88,000 permit fee for the project.

At Tuesday’s Cherokee County Board of Supervisors meeting, a public hearing was held for sale of tax sale certificates on three parcels including # 07-34-130-004 in Blair’s Addition to New Cherokee, # 07-26-127-014 in Glasson’s Addition to New Cherokee, and # 16-25-300-003 in the Southwest Corner of the Southwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 25 in Diamond Township.

The sealed bids received for the parcels were: Parcel # 07-34-130-004: Keith Wells $1632.00, Mary Wells $526.00, Benson Construction $2510.00; Parcel # 07-26-127-014: Kyle Cave $500.00; Parcel # 16-25-300-003: Curt and Shirley Vogt $1000.00.

The Board approved motions accepting the bids of $2510.00 bid from Benson Construction for parcel # 07-34-130-004 in Blair’s Addition to New Cherokee; a $500.00 bid from Kyle Cave for parcel # 07-26-127-014 in Glasson’s Addition to New Cherokee; and a $1000.00 bid from Curt and Shirley Vogt for parcel # 16-25-300-003 in the Southwest Corner of the Southwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 25 in Diamond Township.

The Board then voted to approve a Resolution Disposing of Tax Sale Certificates.

Sam Kooiker, Cherokee City Administrator, stated that the City has been mowing and maintaining the lot on South 6th Street and appreciates the County putting the lot up for sale to get it back on the tax roll. Kooiker assured the Board that the City’s past maintenance expenses have not been and will not be assessed to this property.

In other action, Brandon Billings, County Engineer, presented a construction document for consideration and the Supervisors authorized the chairman to sign a final zero pay voucher for a triple box replacement project on L48.

Schoon added that EDF representatives did a terrific job answering questions regarding tile repair and drainage issues and presented a well proposed plan to assure landowners that their properties would be returned to preconstruction condition.

The Board also voted to authorize the chairman to sign the 2nd Amendment to an agreement with Cherokee Mental Health Institute for cleaning of Juvenile Court Offices on an as needed basis.

A quote from Builder’s Sharpening and Service to trade in a lawn tractor for a front wheel assist model was reviewed and tabled for further review, as was a quote for carpeting the Assessor and Recorder Offices until Supervisor Gary Lundquist can explain the details.

An estimate for cutting the curb and sloping the sidewalk on the north side of the courthouse to accommodate additional handicap parking spaces was reviewed and the Board accepted a $2750.00 estimate from Benson Construction including labor and material for installing a handicap accessible curb entry on the north side of the courthouse.
