Majority overruled

The Advertiser-Tribune | Sep 1, 2018 | www.advertiser-tribune.com

The county commissioners who are defending the rights of a few to put wind turbines on their property are doing so to the detriment of the majority. They are putting the profit of a few over the health, well-being and quality of life of those residing in the county. Commissioners who put profit over the well-being of its constituents should change their vote or resign. When rural residents are forced to move from the area to escape the noise and peril, a large part of the county tax base will be gone. That leaves either vacant properties or a different population moving into the area. So this issue does not just affect country residents: It will affect all members of the county.

Why do people choose to live in the country or drive through it? For the beauty; beauty that will be marred by huge, unsightly turbines. A big part of the allure is the peace and quiet. Ask the residents of the Atlantic coast of Brazil how that is. They call it “this noise that never stops.” Or ask Kathy Orr, the founder of Save Ontario Shores. She said it’s not just the noise you hear, but the “infrasound” that you can feel and affects those with health problems, such as epilepsy.

One last note: Wind energy was attempted and abandoned well over a hundred years ago. It didn’t work then, and will cause the same problems now.
