Costa Head windfarm proposal rejected

The Orcadian | August 31, 2018 | www.orcadian.co.uk

An application for a wind farm at Costa Head in the West Mainland has been refused by Orkney Islands Council following a meeting of the Planning Committee, today, Friday.

This came after a vote of six votes to two from councillors against the proposal by Hoolan Energy.
Councillors Owen Tierney, Kevin Woodbridge, David Dawson, Rob Crichton, Barbara Foulkes and Sandy Cowie voted against the officers’ recommendations to accept the application for Costa Head.
Voting or the planning to go ahead were John Ross Scott and Graham Sinclair.

The meeting was also attended by a number of folk protesting the application, along with further proposals for a windfarm at Hesta Head in South Ronaldsay.

Protestors gathered outside Orkney Islands Council’s offices, in Kirkwall, this morning ahead of the meeting.

The Costa Head Windfarm application, proposed for an area north of Loch of Swannay, was for four turbines up to 125m from base to blade tip in height.

The Hesta head Windfarm proposal, in South Ronaldsay, is for five turbines of the same height. That application is to be discussed this afternoon.
