West Fork Wind hearing is delayed

INDIANAPOLIS – A hearing in the West Fork Wind project has been delayed another six months.

West Fork Wind, LLC, plans to build several wind turbines in northwestern Fayette County to generate electrical power. It had asked the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to declare that the agency does not have jurisdiction in the case because the company will not be selling power to retail customers, but only to utilities.

The company had originally proposed to construct wind towers in Rush and Henry counties as part of the same project. The project has been narrowed to include only Fayette because of opposition to wind towers in the other counties.

A hearing on West Fork’s request to the IURC had been scheduled for last April. In March, the IURC’s Office of Consumer Counselor had said the company’s documentation of its project also included data from Rush and Henry counties.

It asked West Fork to produce data limited to Fayette County.

At that time, West Fork asked for more time to complete the documentation and the hearing was re-scheduled to Oct. 22.

On Aug. 16, West Fork and the Consumer Counselor office jointly asked the IURC to delay the hearing again, until April 30, 2019. West Fork said it will not have all of the requested data until after the end of this year.

The IURC agreed to the hearing delay on Tuesday. Under the new order by IURC, West Fork has until Feb. 15, 2019, to file its case with the IURC, and the Office of Consumer Counselor has until March 29, 2019, to review it.

The IURC has previously taken itself out of jurisdiction on similar wind projects.
