UNION CITY – The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2018-07 regarding DTE Energy Wind Turbines.

Resolution 2018-07 reads as follows: “Whereas, land owners in Union Township but outside of the Village of Union City have contract or intend to contract with DTE Energy to locate wind turbines on property in Union Township; and Whereas, said properties may be located near the Village of Union City; and Whereas, the citizens of the Village of Union City are concerned that the location of wind turbines near the boundaries of the Village will result in increased noise caused by the rotor blades, have a negative visual impact on the aesthetics, increase the mortality rates of the local bird and bat species, interfere with telecommunications equipment and generate electric and magnetic fields that could impact the health, safety, and welfare of the Village residents; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, the Village of Union City believes that the negative impact of wind turbines on Village residents as stated above outweighs the economic benefit to Union Township and those landowners who have contracted or intend to contract with DTE Energy, and therefore the Village does not support the location of DTE Energy turbines less than 1.25 Miles from the boundaries of Union City.”
