Ball Hill vote put on hold

Anti-windmill signs littered the yard by the front door of the Hanover Town Hall Monday evening, but the vote on the Ball Hill Wind Energy Project was pushed back due to the absence of Councilperson Bernard Feldmann.

“We felt we should do the voting with a full board of five versus four members,” Town Supervisor Todd Johnson said.

A supermajority vote is needed to pass the elimination of one of two substations and placing the five-plus mile interconnect line underground as opposed to overhead.

RES Project Manager Mark Lyons had this to say during the public portion of the town board meeting.

“With the vote in Villenova last week to approve the proposed amendments to our application, our project will move forward. I want to appeal to the board that I realize that there is a vocal group of people who are intent on stopping the project and they seem to want a victory in the war against wind energy; they are certainly entitled to their opinion and I think the decision that will be before you gentlemen is an important one.

“RES has done a lot of work to try to design improvements for the project, particularly for the town of Hanover, and none of these individuals who are speaking against the project, I know they put a lot of political pressure on you but, none of them (are) an expert anymore than all of the people who support the project. There’s a lot of information on the website, it is done by experts and I would ask you to consider when you make your decision that years from now when all of the bustle simmers down, the way this project looks and sounds in the town of Hanover depends on you.”

The next Hanover town board meeting is Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
