The project, Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center, includes up to 120 wind turbines and is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and bring millions of dollars of economic impact to the area.

“We are very excited about the Soldier Creek project,” said Spencer Jenkins, associate project manager for NextEra Energy Resources. “The project is expected to generate millions of dollars in additional revenue to landowners and local communities as it produces clean, home-grown energy for the state.”

The Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center will provide an economic boost for Nemaha County, creating approximately 200 jobs during the construction phase, and up to 20 full-time jobs to support the project once it becomes operational. The project is also expected to provide more than $50 million in payments to local landowners. Construction is set begin in early 2019.

Westar Energy will purchase 100 percent of the energy produced by the Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center. An affiliate of NextEra Energy Resources will build, own and operate the project. The energy will serve customers of Westar through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

NextEra Energy Resources is hosting two open house events to share information with the project, answer questions and offer landowners opportunities to partner with the project.
