Ocean wind farm only would benefit Cuomo

Your July 21 editorial saying wind power is worth the extra cost looks like a press release from the governors office.
The editorial makes a big deal of the “pure, clean wind energy” that would be produced by building nearly 200 wind turbines off the coast of Long Island. What it forgets to mention is that these wind turbines are being built to replace the clean energy being produced by the Indian Point nuclear power plant. In other words, no net benefit.
Asking upstate electrical consumers to pay an indefinite surcharge to keep open three upstate nuclear power plants that the owners want to close, while replacing one clean energy source with another downstate, seems to be solely for the purpose of Gov. Cuomo’s political aspirations.
