Otter Creek officials evaluating options

While pondering the next course of action, officials behind the Otter Creek Wind Farm are expressing disappointment in the provincial government’s decision to cancel the project.

Boralex stated it “acknowledges the decision” to wind down the 12-turbine, 50-megawatt Otter Creek project, which was to be located near Wallaceburg.

RES Canada and Walpole Island First Nation were the other partners in the venture.

“At Boralex, we’re committed to providing safe and reliable renewable energy. We are disappointed by the government’s decision to wind down the LRP1 contract of this project which is meant to create made-in-Ontario electricity and made-in-Ontario jobs,” said Patrick Lemaire, Boralex’s president and CEO, in a release Monday afternoon.

“At this point, Boralex will evaluate its options in regard to this project.”

The project, which was the subject of criticism among some community groups, was expected to be built and commissioned by the end of 2019.

Boralex stated it “believes that wind power generation has provided safe and renewable energy to Canadians for over a decade in Ontario.

“We will continue to work constructively with its neighbours, communities and the government to power Ontario’s future together.”
