Skeptical about wind power economics

David Collins’ column “Pros and cons of $15 million dollar investment at State Pier to accommodate offshore wind projects” (June 1), was slanted toward skepticism and Benjamin Kail’s article “Region’s leaders pitch New London to offshore wind suppliers” (June 4), was slanted toward the optimism. We would be well advised to heed Dave Collins’ skepticism.
I’m skeptical about any wind project. I’ve written to The Day in the past. I only wish that reporter Kail had asked Mayor Passero if he has discussed some of the points I have raised with off-shore wind developers, such as: Denmark’s substantial financial problems with energy from the wind; why Germany is abandoning its $1.1 trillion wind power program; the problems with the wind farm in Hawaii called Kamaoa; the problems with three major wind farms in California, namely Altamont Pass, Tehachapi and San Gorgonio?
Here are some Google searches: “The Rusting Wind Turbines of Hawaii” and “A Problem with Wind Power” by Eric Rosenbloom, which is an expose of the history of wind power.
There’s another Pfizer salesman knocking at the door of New London but in the words of Ronald Reagan, “Trust but verify.” Opposition research is mandatory on this issue.
