Lesson of wind resistance

It was reported last week that the town’s turbine Wind 1 may be relocated to a new site, but definitely not in Falmouth. It was also reported that Wind 1 might even benefit Falmouth from the next host community’s generated wind power, depending on potential provisions of the contract.
Let’s hope Falmouth selectmen won’t authorize Wind 1’s next owner to “shoe-horn” it into an unsuspecting neighborhood in the next community for the proverbial “30 pieces of silver.”
Even though Mass Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) did that to us in 2008 (pawning off an industrial wind turbine for profit and wind energy marketing), it certainly doesn’t justify Falmouth’s selectmen playing a Judas Iscariot role and betraying another community after the lesson we’ve learned.
One of the missions of the board is environmental stewardship. This includes maintaining the general welfare. The standard of the public’s welfare has no boundaries. Beyond the wisdom of 2013’s Town Meeting adopting the new Wind Energy System Bylaw (240-166) for Falmouth, I expect that selectmen would view fiscal balancing with utmost consideration due to the lesson we’ve learned from Falmouth’s wind project experience.
