Service seeks public comment on proposed wind facility

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking public comment as part of the development of an Environmental Impact Statement for a proposed wind energy project in Lewis and Thurston counties. Comments may be submitted through June 4, 2018.

The proposed Skookumchuck Wind Energy Project would consist of up to 38 commercial wind turbines and associated infrastructure. Skookumchuck Wind Energy Project, LLC intends to submit a Habitat Conservation Plan in support of an Incidental Take Permit for the federally listed marbled murrelet and protected bald and golden eagles.

Fish and Wildlife will hold two open house meetings, one 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at South Puget Sound Community College, in Lacey; and the second 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 at Centralia College. Members of the public will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed project and to submit written comments and information. All relevant comments will be considered in developing the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
