Aledo considering wind, solar farm study

ALEDO – Bluestem Energy Solutions wants to know if a wind or solar farm is a viable option for the community.

At a committee meeting Monday night, Aledo officials learned that Bluestem has contacted city staff to explore a public-private partnership to develop sustainable energy solutions in Aledo.

Aledo City Manager Erin Knackstedt reported that Bluestem provides a turn-key service for sustainable energy projects, fronting the development costs for installing solar panels or wind turbines.

Bluestem is proposing a development agreement with Aledo to perform a feasibility study to determine if a wind or solar farm would be a viable option for the community. The study would not cost Aledo anything and is expected to be completed within nine months.

The development agreement does not bind the city to work with Bluestem for the installation of renewable energy products if city officials ultimately decide to move forward with information from the study. Under the agreement, the city can choose not to pursue any outcomes of the feasibility study.
