KIRKSVILLE, Mo. –

In just a few years, northeast Missouri could be home to hundreds of wind turbines.

TG Prairie, LLC, an affiliate of a company called Terra-Gen, is developing the High Prairie Wind Project.

That project, which would be located in Adair and Schuyler counties, would include up to 200 wind turbine generators.

Project developers say in this area, wind resources are robust and will provide an abundant supply of affordable electric energy.

The wind energy would then tie into Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois’ Mark Twain Transmission Project that is set to be in service by 2019.

Each wind turbine generator will be on private property, and landowners would be compensated.

On Monday, Adair County Commissioners granted assent to cross public roads and highways.

Adair County Commissioner Mark Thompson says this project will bring numerous benefits to the area.

“One of the biggest benefits will be some of the tax revenues we receive for those structures, and the increased income to local landowners. When you make money, you spend money.”

To date, TG High Prairie has secured over 70,000 acres of wind lease option rights with over 200 landowners in Schuyler and Adair counties.

Project developers hope to begin construction in 2019, the wind turbines are expected to then be in operation by 2020.
