HOPKINTON – Hopkinton Town Supervisor Susan Wood says that two councilmembers who voted against the wind law early last week will now support it.

The Hopkinton Town Board will hold a special meeting Thursday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall. This meeting will be to hold a vote on the proposed wind law.

There will be no privilege of the floor, Wood said.

Councilwoman Sue Lyon voted no on the wind law at a meeting April 16 stating, “Because I think we need to give Avangrid a chance to sit down with the Hopkinton Town Board, do some discussion, with the wind advisory board and the lawyers,” Lyon said. She said discussions would not pertain to money, but would be about other concerns or questions she has.

Wood said she was not aware of Lyon meeting with Avangrid officials, the wind advisory board or lawyers, but said she did meet with fellow council member Steve Parker.

“I am not sure what changed their minds, but Steve came to me and said they would like a revote and they would support the law,” Wood said.

The law remains unchanged. It calls for setbacks of 2,500 feet from a property line of a non-participating landowner (more than five times the height of a tower), sound decibel limits of 40 dBA and no turbines south of SH 72.

Wood said she has had no contact from Lyon relating to the wind law.
