The Cumberland Mountain Preservation Coalition – and Fairfield Glade as a whole – scored a victory last week in Nashville in the fight to keep Wind Turbines from being installed atop Crab Orchard mountains.

A Wind Energy bill passed the Tennessee Senate with 32 Ayes on Wednesday and will now go to the next step of the office of the Governor.

Led by Rep. Cameron Sexton and Senator Paul Bailey, the bill outlines regulations that would serve to hinder such proposed Turbine projects.

SB1793 provides the following:

• Preserves pristine nature of mountain ridge lines

• Establishes methods to protect wildlife

• Provides setback and noise restrictions

• Requires financial bonding for decommissioning

• Implements regulations for turbine operations

• Ensures public hearing processes

Bailey recognized the CMPC (about 20 of the groups members made the trip to Nashville, including Linda Chiarmonte.

CMPC’s Kati Segar said “Bailey recognized the loss of George Chiarmonte (who passed away recently) and his contributions to the effort.”

CMPC thanked Sexton and Bailey for their continued efforts against the Apex Energy proposed wind farm.
