Wind turbines

Letters to the Editor Wednesday, April 18 | The Courier | wcfcourier.com

It was interesting to see only Jerry Steimel was quoted in the April 15 article “Wind Farm Showdown This Week.” Steimel complains about how much he lost in actual farming in the past few years and that, therefore, is his reason for allowing wind turbines on his land. He also said he would not allow the turbines if they interfered with his GPS equipment and hog finishing operations. He allowed hog finishing facilities on his land a few years ago that have negatively impacted those who live nearby. He, of course, doesn’t live near the hog places, nor will he live near the wind turbines. Neither do the county officials making decisions on the wind turbines matter.

He suggests opponents and neighbors could allow a 440-foot tower on their land too. Really, on an acreage or by a farmhouse? Mr. Steimel seems to be surviving and will do even better when the turbines “help him pay off some debts” by throwing his neighbors under the bus for the second time.

Mr. Steimel’s good fortune, caused by his insensitive greedy actions, won’t compare to the loss of property values and quality of life suffered by those near the turbines.
