Turbines are splitting rural Dekalb County in two.

Nextera energy already has 97 turbines running in the county but it wants more.

The Board of Washington township held a hearing about the project Thursday night.

Two years ago, some landowners opted to put turbines on their property to generate income for themselves and the community.

They say wind power is saving rural America’s future. Others in the community say wind power is wrecking the rural way of life.

“It’s all backed by greed. the almighty dollar. with disregard to human lives and the wild life and it’s devastating. our hearts are broken,” Kim Tindel said.

A lawyer for Nextera energy spoke at Thursday night’s meeting.

His main message was that Washington township’s zoning laws do not stop landowners from adding turbines to their property.
