Wind turbines considered for southern Page County

Page County officials are expecting to review legalities and financial impacts of wind turbines when they attend the Iowa State Association of Counties convention this week held in Des Moines.

The timing is right.

Supervisor Jon Herzberg informed fellow supervisors Alan Armstrong and Chuck Morris of a proposed wind turbine project based in Nodaway County, Missouri, that may overlap into extreme, southern portions of Page County. Landowners near Braddyville have contacted Herzberg about the county’s preparation for the turbines that can stand 200 feet tall and have blades half that size.

“Tradewind Energy has wind energy projects under development in Missouri and Iowa. The northwest Missouri projects are currently in the development phase with no imminent construction start dates. Therefore, detail information is limited at this time,” said Johnna Guinty, vice president of marketing.

Tradewind Energy is based in Lenexa, Kansas. Since 2003, Tradewind has wind and solar energy projects in the Midwest, Great Plains and South. A majority of their wind projects are in Kansas and Oklahoma.

According to Tradewind’s website, the project that could include Page County is named Contrail. That includes 20,000 acres of land and about 100 landowners spread out from Nodaway County, Missouri. No other specifics were available.
