Jupiter Wind Farm withdrawn

Jupiter project site 'unsuitable' | David Cole | Goulburn Post | March 18, 2018 | www.goulburnpost.com.au

In a major win for the Residents Against Jupiter Wind Farm, the proposal for the development near Tarago has been entirely withdrawn by the proponent.

The Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) – already rejected the Jupiter Wind Farm ealrier this year.

The department then referred the Jupiter Wind Farm proposal to the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) for determination on February 23.

The department had concluded the state significant development should not proceed in its present form.

A spokesperson for the department said: “Its assessment found the environmental impacts of the project outweigh its benefits, and the site is fundamentally unsuitable for a large-scale wind farm.”

As part of its independent decision-making process, a three-member panel of the Commission was due to visit the proposed site this Tuesday, March 20, before hearing from affected residents and other interested stakeholders at a public meeting in Bungendore on Wednesday, March 21.

The proponent, EPYC Pty Ltd, informed the Commission late on March 15 that it was withdrawing the application – citing its belief “that the IPC’s finding would not be contrary to recommendation made by DPE.”

The IPC has now cancelled the site visit public meeting. “The Commission rejects the assertion its assessment and determination of the application would not have been made fairly and independently of the department,” a spokesperson said.
