Falmouth wind turbine spinning again

EAST FALMOUTH – The 400-foot wind turbine built in the Falmouth Technology Park in 2010 is spinning again after being offline for about seven weeks.

Daniel Webb, who owns the turbine under the company name of Notus Clean Energy LLC, said the turbine had been shut down for a “normal and routine” maintenance issue. A bearing needed replacement and its location required the removal of the rotor blades.

The length of time the turbine was offline was mostly due to the logistics of getting the crane and scheduling the blade removal, he said. Webb also had to get permission from the town’s building commissioner. The process of replacing the bearing took only a few days, he said.

The Notus turbine produces enough energy to power about 700 homes annually and displaces 6 tons of carbon dioxide every day, Webb said.
