Town administrator Rebecca Stone expects no hiccups at a Feb. 20 special town meeting, where residents will vote on eight articles, including establishing a stabilization fund for the Farmington River Regional Elementary school and allocating $20,000 toward the town’s broadband efforts.
The town recently learned that there was no fund in the budget specifically dedicated to capital maintenance projects for the elementary school, according to Stone.
Residents will vote on whether to create the fund and it would be overseen by the school’s custodian.
The town will also vote on whether to spend $125,419.41 on their wind turbine bond.
The turbine, which sits off Algerie Road on the northeast end of town began a trial period in December, according to Stone.
The turbine was initially expected to become operational in May, but its launch, and therefore incoming revenue, was delayed, Stone said.
The town is short about $31,000 to pay for health plans for town employees and residents will be asked to transfer that sum from the free cash portion of the budget, Stone said.
“I don’t expect that any of this will have any effect on the town tax rate,” Stone said.
Other articles include petitioning the state for an additional liquor license for Papas Healthy Food & Fuel in East Otis and creating a formal policy regarding signage in town.
The meeting will be held at Town Hall and begin at 7 p.m.
