Another wind farm could be coming to Weld County, Pawnee National Grassland

More wind turbines could be coming to northeastern Colorado, as Weld County commissioners recently approved a wind measuring project for an area northeast of Grover.
Leeward Renewable Energy will install three wind measuring towers on private land in the Pawnee National Grassland, and those towers will remain in place for two years gathering data.
Leeward already has an established presence in Weld with its Cedar Creek wind farm near Grover.
Weld commissioners approved the measuring project Monday, and documents associated with the request suggest the move is a precursor to a new project called Mountain Breeze Wind project.
Leeward representatives wouldn’t comment on the Mountain Breeze project.
The measurement towers will be within the Pawnee National Grassland but they won’t be on federal land, which is why county commissioners are involved.
The grassland also is home to 60 active oil and gas wells, mostly on private land.
About 30 percent of the grassland, or 58,113 acres, is privately owned land. About 37 percent is federal, and the rest is a mixture, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
