Okay to be ’emotional’ about proposed wind farms

Pharos-Tribune | January 29, 2018 | www.pharostribune.com

It was said recently in our local news that those of us who do not stand for the proposed wind project in Cass County “can only see what’s in front of their face and are certainly not concerned with anything other than what they want.”

I want Cass County to know how far from true that statement is.

I can shout statistics all day on why this project is so wrong, but since the topic of being “emotional” has been brought up that is what the basis of my opinion will consist of.

You see, in the past few months, I have had the opportunity to really get to know the people in my community. Some of them I’ve known of my whole life but never really “knew.” When I would ask to speak with them about the project, the look of distress on their faces was unreal. Most would invite me into their homes and businesses to talk about their “emotions.” Some of these people did not know me from Adam, but they were glad I came to get their opinion. I got to know the hearts of Cass County and I can tell you there wasn’t one concerned with what was “in front of their face.”

Most folks worried about their future and the future of this county. Most of their concerns were legitimate and factual and from raised by living, breathing and wonderful people. Concerns that are being tossed by the wayside for monetary gain.

So I ask our elected officials to unharden your hearts and examine your own emotions. I see the people of Cass County as individuals who need to be cared about and not just looked at as dollar signs. Some people cannot be bought.

Remember: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Erecting a 600-foot-tall (maybe taller) wind turbine dangerously near my neighbors’ homes is something that us “emotional” people would not do, myself included.
