An Bord Pleánala will rule on a proposed wind energy development in Westmeath.

Coole Wind Farm Limited, whose parent company is Element Power, is appealing the county council’s decision to refuse permission for 13 turbines on a site near Coole.

The local authority said all but two of the structures would breach separation distances between turbines and residential dwellings included in the county development plan.

Seventy-five jobs are proposed in the construction, operation and maintenance of the wind farm which the company says would supply power to 32,000 Irish homes.
