Wind farm plan for land near Stanley

Another significant wind farm is being proposed for Circular Head, with a plan for up to 13 turbines to be erected on rural land near Stanley.

“The site is an exceptionally windy location in what is probably Australia’s windiest state,” Sydney-based Epuron Projects said in material sent to residents in the area.

“The project has potential for the highest energy yield per turbine in Australia and will connect to the Port Latta substation to supply renewable power to the National Electricity Market.”

In a letter to residents, project manager Shane Bartel said Epuron intended to “progress” a development application with the Circular Head Council in late 2018.

He said the company was aiming for construction in 2019 and he would visit Stanley soon to meet locals and discuss the project.

Epuron said the project would provide enough power for about 23,500 homes and could save about 218,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The company said the project would provide many jobs in construction and possibly some when it was operational and it wanted to maximise the use of local skills and services.

The site would be at the north-western tip of the Stanley peninsula, about 4 kilometres from the town.

Epuron said the property was used for cattle grazing.

It said the distance from neighbours meant no “noise impacts” were expected and visual impact would be minimal.

UPC Renewables Australia plans a $1 billion-plus wind farm for Robbins Island and another at nearby Jims Plain.
