Strong winds overturned a 650 tonne crawler crane on a wind farm in the Kirtorf area of central Germany yesterday.
The crane a Demag SL3800 owned and operated by Dufour group was working on the installation of a large turbine, when hurricane force winds hit the region to the north east of Frankfurt. Turbine components and the crane were badly damaged, but thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.
We do not know at this stage if the crane was lifting at the time, or had been left fully erected in the face of the strong winds. We will update when we learn more.
