An organization opposed to the spread of wind powered turbines in Michigan is hosting a special meeting in Bronson next week.

The Interstate Informed Citizens Coalition will be hosting the meeting att the Bronson Public Library January 24 at 6:30 p.m.

The non-profit group has raised public awareness about wind turbines in recent years.

In the announcement about the Bronson meeting that was posted on their Facebook page, the group says that DTE Energy and other energy firms have targeted Branch County for what they are calling significant utility scale wind development.

Coalition Director Kevon Martis has been invited to speak next Wednesday and share his experiences in previous zoning controversies over wind turbines.

It has been 22 years since the first wind turbine in Michigan was built in Traverse City.

As of last July, there were 900 wind turbines in the state, but none have been built in this area.
